LOCAL-FIRST ARCHITECTURE

Last Updated: October 24, 2026

1. Core Philosophy: Zero Cloud Middleman

WickScribe is fundamentally engineered to protect your trading privacy and intellectual property. We do not operate cloud database servers, we do not require you to create an account, and we have zero access to your trade executions, account balances, screenshots, or proprietary strategies.

2. Local Data Storage & Your Responsibility

All data generated within WickScribe—including trade records, broker CSV imports, journal reflections, custom playbook tags, and cached market candles—is stored strictly on your local machine inside a local SQLite database file. Trade screenshots are stored directly on your hard drive within your operating system's local application data directory.

Because we do not sync your data to any cloud server, we cannot access or recover deleted, lost, or corrupted files. You are solely responsible for maintaining routine backups of your journal using the local JSON and CSV export tools provided in the App Settings.

3. Outbound Network Requests

WickScribe operates offline by default and only makes outbound network requests in the following specific scenarios:

  • License & Device Verification: To enforce our 2-device activation limit and process refunds, the application sends a lightweight request containing your license key and an anonymous, non-identifying machine ID to our licensing server (via our Merchant of Record, Dodo Payments). This check occurs upon launch, activation, and when you manually deactivate a device in Settings to free up a license slot. No personal trading data is ever transmitted during this check.
  • Market Data (BYOK): If you configure a personal Databento API key, the application requests historical candlestick and tick data directly from Databento's servers. Only contract symbols, timeframes, and timestamps are transmitted. Review Databento's Privacy Policy.
  • AI Analyst Features (BYOK): If you initiate an "AI Audit" or "Macro Analyst Report", selected trade metrics (entry/exit prices, PnL, playbook tags, and trade notes) are transmitted directly from your machine to the LLM provider you configured. Your raw SQLite database is never uploaded. For 100% offline AI analysis, you may configure Local Ollama in Settings. Review their policies: OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic.

4. OS Keychain & Credential Security

WickScribe never stores sensitive credentials in plain text or inside your exportable SQLite database. Any third-party API keys you enter (Databento, OpenAI, Gemini, Claude), along with your Dodo Payments license key and initial 14-day trial timestamp, are securely encrypted and stored inside your operating system's native credential vault (macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager) via our Rust backend.

5. Payment Processing & Checkout

When you purchase a desktop license, checkout and payment processing are handled entirely by our Merchant of Record, Dodo Payments. WickScribe never collects, processes, or stores your credit card details or billing address. Dodo Payments manages all payment data, tax compliance, and receipt generation in accordance with their own Privacy Policy and PCI-DSS standards.
